The collection includes a land warrant from the Commonwealth of Virginia to Monroe for 5,000 acres, a contract by John Crittenden for the sale of 5,000 acres in Kentucky to Monroe, an 1828 list of letters relating to land transactions, deed for sale of land and slaves in Henrico County, Va., U.S. military land grant to Monroe transferred to William Lytle, other U.S. military land grants to Monroe, and power of attorney to sell military bounty land. Also, includes land grants and patents signed by Monroe, deed of transfer of land in King George County, Va., of William Bankhead's share to Monroe, and an agreement for the sale of land in Loudoun County, Va., from John Duval to Monroe. Correspondence from Monroe concerns attempts to sell the land jointly owned with his uncle, Joseph Jones. Also, includes letters from John Marshall offering assistance in purchasing western land, from John Breckinridge reporting on Marshall's land in Kentucky, from Thomas Williams offering to buy Monroe's land in Ohio and commenting on squatters, and from Thomas Metcalfe seeking information on the sale of Monroe's land in Harrison County, Kentucky.
